Friends of NAEOP (FON) Scholarship Opportunities & Awards

  • ALL applications or nominations must be submitted online via the respective link provided below.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered; all fields are required.
  • Each NAEOP Project Membership is allowed up to two (2) nominations per award.
  • Nominations will only be accepted from current NAEOP project members only; membership will be confirmed by the FON Scholarship Committee.

  • HINT: Be ready to upload all required documents. Review the required materials for each award to be prepared with required information and material when submitting nominations.

Pearl M. Hill Memorial Scholarship for Upward Bound Students

Two (2) $500.00 scholarships will be awarded to Upward Bound (current or former) students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, civic engagement, and commitment to higher education.

PearHillEligibility Criteria:

  1. Must be a current or former UB project participant (minimum of 2 years) from Region X (AK, ID, OR, and WA)
  2. Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a program of post-secondary education by fall 2017
  3. Exhibit those qualities which indicate outstanding leadership ability, civic involvement, and commitment to higher education
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above from the most recent school attended

Required Application Materials:

  1. Personal Statement (not to exceed two pages) addressing the following: Upward Bound participation, career and education goals, evidence of leadership skills, and financial need
  2. Completed list of activities listing school activities, talents, community service, and work experience with corresponding leadership positions held
  3. Nomination form
  4. Academic Transcripts (high school and college)
  5. Two letters of recommendation addressing candidate’s leadership ability. One from TRIO nominator and other from a teacher, advisor, or community person that is knowledgeable of candidate’s leadership/academic skills
  6. Optional: Other letters of support, certificates/awards, news items, etc…

Friends of NAEOP (FON) Scholastic Achievement Award

Friends of NAEOP’s outstanding financial efforts have again allowed for the NAEOP community to nominate outstanding TRIO students (in UB, ETS, EOC, SSS, or McNair) for this award. Up to seven TRIO students who have overcome barriers to achieve outstanding academic success will be selected by the FON committee to receive an award of $1000.00 each.

FON Scholastic Achievement Nomination Application

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Candidates must be a current or former TRIO participant for a minimum of one year.
  2. ETS/UB candidates must be incoming college freshman for fall 2018
  3. EOC participants shall be exempt from the one year of participation qualification, but must have completed a minimum of one service during the most recent academic year
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above from most recent educational institution attended

Required Application Materials:

  1. Online nomination form submitted by TRIO project director.
  2. One page essay by candidate addressing the following: (1) how participating in a TRIO project has impacted his/her educational goals and (2) barriers to educational success or obstacles he/she has overcome.
  3. Two (2) letters of support: one from the TRIO nominator and the other from a non-TRIO person.

Travel policy for FON Scholastic Achievement Award Recipients:

  • FON provides money for these scholarships and will also provide a small stipend to offset the recipient’s travel costs allowing them to attend the annual NAEOP Conference. Family and friends of the recipient are invited to attend, but are entirely responsible for their own expenses.
  • NAEOP will allow for travel assistance as well. Please contact Glenda Landon for more information.

NAEOP TRIO Achiever’s Award

This $200.00 honorarium is awarded to two (2) TRIO Alumni who have achieved their professional goals.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Candidate must be a former TRIO participant from Region X (AK, ID, OR, and WA).
  2. Has significantly benefited from NAEOP TRIO project services.
  3. Graduated from a post-secondary institution.
  4. Achieved professional success.

Required Application Materials:

  1. One-page letter of recommendation from the nominating TRIO project summarizing the background and accomplishments in bio format of candidate.
  2. Nominee’s own historical statement that provides sufficient information for the TRIO Achiever Award Selection Committee to conduct a meaningful evaluation of candidate’s qualifications.
  3. TRIO project’s pledge for funding the candidate to attend the annual NAEOP conference TRIO Achiever’s Breakfast should they be selected. This is voluntary, but an added benefit to candidate’s consideration.
